Director of Integrations & AI Strategy · PopSockets

Kevin Major

I build the systems and lead the teams that connect commerce, AI, and the global supply chain — and recently saved my company a third of a million dollars by ripping out the middleware vendor everyone said we couldn't leave.

$350K/yr saved by replacing MuleSoft with Apache Camel — without losing a single integration. The methodology became Unmule.

A senior backend, integrations, and AI engineer who leads from inside the work.

I lead integrations and AI strategy at PopSockets, where I've spent the last seven years building the systems and teams that connect retail, e-commerce, ERP, and warehouse operations across the globe. My recent work centers on two things: replacing expensive proprietary middleware (MuleSoft → Apache Camel) and putting agentic AI workflows to real use inside engineering — augmenting how we develop, test, and research, not just talking about it.

I came up as a backend developer (Ruby on Rails, PHP), a Linux systems administrator, and a mobile developer (Flutter/Dart), and I still operate across that whole stack. The constant has been bridging gaps — between teams, between systems, between vendors and the actual problem you're trying to solve.

I lead small, high-trust development teams in AGILE environments, and I've managed projects across the US, India, Canada, and Sri Lanka. I've worked remotely for most of my career and I'm fluent in the tools, rhythms, and async habits that make distributed teams actually function.

If you need someone who can own integration architecture, ship real AI-augmented engineering, and lead the small teams that make it happen — let's talk.

Unmule

Founder

"Your middleware shouldn't have a landlord."

The MuleSoft → Apache Camel migration I led at PopSockets, productized as a service for other mid-market and enterprise teams. Audit existing flows, rebuild on Camel + Spring Boot + Kubernetes + Kafka + Kong + Grafana, transfer ownership. Typical result: 80%+ reduction in middleware costs, payback in roughly four months, end of vendor lock-in.

What people who've actually worked with me say.

"Kevin has great technical chops, and is committed to making things work well. He's always looking for ways to improve process, communication, and the level of excellence of a team. Plus, he's a really fun guy to know." Corey Snipes, Twomile Heavy Industries
"Two key traits he's displayed time and time again which I've found invaluable: his ability to solve problems and get along well with others. Kevin has talent for learning new technologies and languages — code or verbal. His broad experience, gained domestically and internationally, lets him work well in multicultural geo-disparate organizations." Kreig Dubose, Enterprise Architect, Microsoft Corp.
